Buttermilk Dill Salad Dressing
Buttermilk got its name from the residual milk that remained after butter was churned.* This fermented milk lends a sour note to our salad dressing along with the splash of lemon juice and apple cider vinegar. This sour taste is balanced here by the milky richness of cream cheese, sour cream, and mayonnaise. And you cannot forget that characteristic, grassy undertone of dill and that oniony fusion of chives. Try this dressing on my Zesty Mexican Cobb Salad (see recipe under Salad) or as an alternative to Caesar dressing. It’s so good that you’ll be licking the spoon!
Ingredients
- ¼ cup Best Foods Real Mayonnaise
- ¼ cup regular, full-fat sour cream
- ¼ cup buttermilk, 2% milk fat
- 1 ½ oz. Philadelphia Original Cream Cheese
- ¼ t. Worcestershire sauce
- ¼ t, apple cider vinegar
- ¾ t. freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 1 large garlic clove
- 2 t. chopped dill
- 1 t. chopped chives
- ¼ t. onion powder
- ¼ t. garlic powder
- ¼ t. sea salt
- 1/8 t. ground black pepper
Directions
- Step 1 Measure out the mayonnaise, sour cream, and cream cheese in a large mixing bowl. Break up the cream cheese in chunks and blend it with a spoon until it dissolves into the mayonnaise and sour cream. Then, add the buttermilk, vinegar, lemon juice, and Worcestershire sauce and mix until everything is incorporated.
- Step 2 Next, remove the outer skin from the garlic clove and pass it through a garlic press, tossing it in the bowl with the rest of the ingredients. Then, chop the dill and chives and add to the mixing bowl. Finally, add all the seasonings (the garlic and onion powder, salt, and pepper). Mix well and dress your favorite salad. Enjoy!
This buttermilk dressing is so delicious that you’ll be licking the back of a spoon! This dressing was a failed attempt at making ranch dressing, but what came out of this experiment was a huge win! Try this dressing on my Zesty Mexican Cobb Salad (see recipes under Salad) or on your favorite salad!
